John is one of Australia’s leading dispute resolution lawyers and the current chair of Dentons’ global litigation and dispute resolution group.
He has significant experience in conducting all forms of dispute resolution including successful mediations, arbitrations, conciliations and commercial settlement negotiations.
Mr Dalzell represents clients in Royal Commissions, Special Commissions of Inquiry, the Supreme Court, Federal Court and all appeal courts including the High Court of Australia.
Before migrating to Australia, he was a barrister in London specialising in trials before juries and commercial disputes.
He has previously advised the NSW Government on liquor and gaming legislation.
In 2018, Mr Dalzell was voted by his peers as one of Australia’s best lawyers in litigation.
Before turning to law, Mr Dalzell was a Royal Marines Commando and holds a first class Honours degree in Physiotherapy.
This session will explore the ways in which technology has created new challenges and opportunities for gambling regulators.
The potential benefits of automated risk monitoring, facial recognition technology and dynamic messaging on electronic gaming machines will be considered, as will the role of regulators and the industry in ensuring technological advances not only benefit the industry but are used to prevent and minimise gambling harm.
