In March 2008, Ms. Paula Llewellyn was appointed the first female Director of Public Prosecutions in Jamaica. Prior to being appointed Director, Ms. Llewellyn served as Acting Director of Public Prosecutions in May 1999 and July – August 2005.
Following her appointment, in May and August 2008 respectively Ms. Llewellyn was appointed as Her Majesty’s Queen’s Counsel and was conferred with the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander (CD).
Ms. Llewellyn received her legal education at the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School. She has over twenty-five (25) years of experience as Criminal Law Litigator, having prosecuted complex criminal cases, some of which were of exceptional public interest in courts of different jurisdictions.
Ms. Llewellyn has also made presentations on a variety of legal subjects both locally and internationally and enjoys delivering motivational speeches. Ms. Llewellyn believes that professionalism and excellence must be at the heart of service above self to her fellow citizens.
