NHS shake-up will benefit problem gamblers

By site_editor

9 January 2019: Various media report on the UK Government's recent announcement that it will overhaul the NHS, pumping £20.5bn into the National Health Service. UK gambling addicts are among those set to benefit from counselling and treatment.

Problem gamblers will be among the extra 380,000 adults and 350,000 young people given access to mental health services over the next five years as additional money is pumped into the NHS.

Currently, there is only one UK facility to treat people addicted to betting. This is based in Fulham, south-west London.

It is believed that under the recently announced ten-year NHS plan, other venues will be opened to  help the country’s 400,000 problem gamblers and 2m at-risk players.
